05/25/2013– Gold For St Helena 2012

Melbourne, Australia August 2, 2012: Bayside Studio local artist Joan Kamaru likes to get in on the fun and has been busy making faux gold finishes for local Maltese Community celebrations.

Bayside Studio silent partner Simon is also the front runner for the Sly Grog Club and was very impressed with the St Helena Project 2012 . Knowing his artist partner would enjoy contributing , Simon offered gilding services.

Each year a procession celebrating St Helena is held in Maltese Communities all around the world.

This year a new tray has been sponsored by JS Cabinets Pty Ltd , a family business located in East Keilor . The new tray has been designed to be sturdy yet present an elegance by using carefully chosen and executed luxury finishes.

The design includes Ornaments to decorate the walls of the Tray. These pieces were especially created by craftsmen in Malta - cast and hand carved with care. They are made from fibreglass, a material able to take brutal handling in the procession.

Bayside Studio creates luxury fine finishes for ornate plaster and was able to advise and help out with decorating the ornaments.

Some of the ornaments are well known and loved such as the 'cupids', which were fun and charming to work with.

Other pieces were carefully cast and detailed, which is a difficult task given the hardness of fibreglass. 'Many Hands Make Light Work' - this team effort has come together to make a tray that will be used and enjoyed by the Maltese Community here in Melbourne.

Usually ornaments are placed with care so as to not be disturbed and broken but this is not the case with the Tray. We made sure to create a good layer of faux gilding on areas that may be handled in the procession.

Each job has its own quirkiness and this one is no exception. We used DUSPEC which is a handy place to get the right information quickly. If you need help with a project or want some instruction with faux gilding please do not hestate to ask.
