Key blanks refer to keys that have not been cut yet to fit a specific keyhole, such as a door, lock, or vehicle ignition.
Many locksmiths keep these keys on hand in their stores, and you may also find them at some home improvement stores. Traditionally key blanks were plain and either gold or silver in color; however, these days many locksmiths and home improvement stores offer an enormous variety of colors, designs, and logos on these key blanks.
Sports fans and collectors may be able to find many team logos, such as baseball, basketball, football, and many other sports whether they are college or professional teams. Many of the popular teams should already be on hand; however, they can probably be easily ordered, if not. There are also many other logos and designs on key blanks, not just for the sports fans, such as popular cartoon characters, music emblems and bands, a variety of different logos and emblems as well as a various colors, including neon colors. There are also 3D designs available on some key blanks. These may also be specially ordered, if they are not available on hand.
Regardless of the color or design on the key blank, these keys can be cut by a professional to fit any size keyhole. Many people get extra keys cut to fit door locks around the home or office, and sometimes to have an extra set of car keys. If you are like most people, your keys are the first thing you lose, and it is always when you need them the most. A lot of people also accidentally lock their keys inside their vehicles, and will need to call a locksmith to open the door for them. People who tend to lose their keys a lot or have a habit of locking them inside their vehicle may benefit from having a duplicate key. They can purchase several key blanks at a time and have them duplicated at a locksmith store or hardware store. Then when they lose a key they will already have an extra key to replace the lost or misplaced one.
Key blanks are also beneficial for people who own rental houses. Once a tenant moves out, the landlord can either go have new keys made for new tenants or have the locks completely changed if their keys were not returned when the old tenants moved out.
We will always need keys for our homes, offices, vehicles, etc. and having several key blanks on hand may be very beneficial for some people, especially those who tend to misplace their keys often.
