Lynn Bentley's Linkedin Profile provides details on his print and eBooks
Lynn Bentley, Managing Partner, bizcoaches.com, is pleased to alert readers that many elements of Google's leadership strategy are similar to those included in the CEO Case Studies chapter of his book A Brief History Of The Organization. Company leaders believe that "innovation is the defining feature of enduring companies". At Google, individual entrepreneurship and the systematic pursuit of innovation are fostered.
Similar to the Pfizer, Citigroup and Schneider case studies, the company vision is aligned with a passion for entrepreneurship and support for team member freedom to execute. This makes the magic happen which creates top flight results. David Lawlee, VP corporate development says, "This can never be left to chance." Many employees started enterprises prior to joining Google and two-thirds of the entrepreneurs from acquired companies remain with Google.
Leaders clearly communicate the vision that stretches employees to "think big and believe in big bets". Examples of high-risk and high-reward ventures are driverless cars and Android. By encouraging people and providing critical resources, they often achieve far more than what is initially imagined!
Bentley says, "Since publishing the first edition of A Brief History Of The Organization in 2003, I have gathered further evidence to support the basic premise that four positive organizational leadership characteristics drive significant enterprise success: a workforce that has a clear understanding of long-term goals, an environment where leaders encourage full staff participation in organization decision-making, complete utilization of a well executed Performance Management program and consistent development and tracking of valid success measurements."
A breakthrough occurred in 2009 when Profiles International initiated a study to identify factors that drive employee productivity within organizations. The researchers analyzed financial data from over 1600 publicly traded companies and segmented the results into 175 sub-industry groups. The success was measured as revenue produced per full-time employee or equivalent in 2008.
The companies studied were evaluated within these industry groups to create valid data links. Examples include: PCConnection, Samuel Adams, Dow Chemical, Tenet, Aflac,
D & B, CapitalOne, Hasbro, PENSKE and Shutterfly.
Bentley concludes, "A direct correlation has been demonstrated to prove the theory presented in my book. These and other results have been added to complete the second edition published in May, 2010. When the details of the book are combined with the compelling evidence presented in the Profiles International study, leaders and organization practitioners have powerful tools to guide the development of enterprise effectiveness. The updated version can now be purchased in print or as eBook at most online bookstores including: www.barnesandnoble.com."
