An Altrincham business IT services company has pledged to raise £15,000 to restore a derelict school in Africa.
Computer Support Services, on Grafton Street, says that the £15,000 will pay to restore classrooms at the primary school in Buliisa, North West Uganda, where more than 100 children are currently taught in a single classroom.
The company provides IT support services to businesses both here in the UK and overseas, including in Uganda.
Jim Black, Director of Computer Support Services, explains: “We were shown the school by a UK-based charity, Soft Power Education, www.softpowereducation.com when we were there recently on business and were instantly struck by how poor the buildings were in which to teach so many children who were really keen to learn.
“The charity, which has a base near the school, does some excellent work in Uganda and told us that this kind of funding would transform the school and provide massively-improved facilities for the children.
“We are hoping to come up with a number of initiatives to raise the £15,000 including setting aside a portion of existing and future clients’ fees for our services. We hope to hit the amount within 12 months and really hope to make a massive difference to the lives of these children in what is a very poor part of Uganda.”
Sharon Webb, Manager of Soft Power Education in Uganda, said:
“It is only through the support of people like those at Computer Support Services that we are able to continue our work to improve the quality of life in Uganda. This fundraising will make a massive difference to the lives of hundreds of children in Buliisa.”
Computer Support Services, which is a division of J J Black Consultancy Limited, specialises in providing IT support for small businesses, schools and individuals, based primarily in the North West of England.
However, it also supports clients all over the world including the USA, Ghana, Caribbean and Uganda, using the latest technologies to remotely access and service clients’ IT systems.
Its services include advice on IT systems, procurement and set up of systems, and the back-up of data.
The company also supports a number of other charities here in the UK and the USA.
